When we added invoices to Ferrybox, we expected agencies to like having fewer tools. We didn't expect how much it would change when they got paid. Here's what we've seen.
Invoices paid 11 days faster#
Across agencies that send invoices from Ferrybox, invoices are paid 11 days faster on average than the same agencies' invoices before they switched. Some get paid much faster: Parcel & Pine, a branding agency in Portland, gets paid 16 days sooner.
Why it works#
The reason is mostly timing and context. A traditional invoice arrives as a PDF attachment, often days after the work is finished, in an inbox full of other things. It gets forwarded to finance, who don't know what it's for, and it waits.
An invoice in the portal sits next to the work it pays for. The client approves the final version and sees the invoice on the same screen. The value is fresh, the context is right there, and paying takes a minute.
Reminders that don't feel awkward#
Agencies also told us they hated chasing payments. It felt like it damaged the relationship. Portal reminders help, because they're automatic and polite, and they stop the moment the invoice is paid.
Finance teams on the client side like it too. Every invoice links to the approved work it covers, so nobody has to ask what it is for before paying it.
What agencies changed#
The agencies seeing the biggest improvement made one small change to their process: they send the invoice on the day the final deliverable is approved, not at the end of the month. When the client is happiest with the work, paying for it feels natural.
